Miss Nenadov’s Kindergarten Weekly Memo
02/01/10-02/05/10

Bible- The First Disciples
-John points to Jesus
-Andrew finds Simon
-Phillip tells Nathanael
-Nathanael believes in Jesus

*Your child’s Bible grade comes mainly from how well they can recite the weekly verse! Please practice with them at home. Each Friday your child stands in front of their peers and they recite the weekly verse! They are graded on how well they know their verse, including the REFERENCE!

Memory Verse: Letter Ww - “When I am afraid, I will trust in You.”
Psalm 56:3
(The Bible verse card has different wording, but the above verse is how I will be teaching the verse in class).

Sharing Letter-Ww

*Your child has a new carpet square. Please note their new sharing day!

Monday- Red
Tuesday- Red and Orange
Wednesday- Yellow
Thursday-Green
Friday-Blue and Purple

Phonics- We will continue with our reading groups this week. Reading groups occur about every other week. Starting this week, your child will have reading homework every Tuesday and Thursday! Please return the book every day unless it has a sticker on it. If the book has a sticker on the cover, the book may stay at home.

Handwriting- We will start learning our capital cursive alphabet! The handwriting load is becoming heavy. If your child is unable to finish their work in class, their work will be sent home in order for them to complete it. Look for the please finish and return stamp.

Math- We will continue to learn sorting by lengths (shorter, longer). Not many math pages will be sent home. We will be using many manipulatives to learn new concepts and I will assess their knowledge based on their use of manipulatives. Below is an explanation.

Marcy Cook

Two weeks ago I had the privilege of spending a day at Marcy Cook’s seminar: Math for K-3. Marcy Cook is a leading math specialist, master educator and author. She believes that “number sense develops gradually by exploring, visualizing and relating number algorithms.” Marcy introduced me to a new approach of teaching math. Practically, her philosophy will be implemented in our kindergarten class by having our students use manipulatives, hands-on games, and other relevant math tools. The goal is to have the students actively involved. Active involvement will engage students and maximize their learning.

Science- Seasons and Seeds

Reminders/Notes

*100th Day of School- Friday, February 5th will be the 100th Day of School! We are not going to have a party that day, but we are going to spend most of the day learning about 100! We are going to have different centers set up in which the children will rotate and participate in different 100 activities. I will need about 7 parents to sign-up and volunteer to run a center. Please look for me outside to sign-up. I will need parents to make a commitment from 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m.

*Aquarium of the Pacific Field Trip- We will be taking our 3rd field trip on Wednesday, February 10th! The cost for each child is $10. The cost for each parent/chaperone is $6. If you and your child have a season pass, you only need to send in $4 with your child for gas money. Please have in the permission slips and the money by THIS FRIDAY, 02/05/01.

*Grandparent’s Day- Friday, February 12th! There will be a performance for the beloved Grandparents on the 12th. Your child will be singing a song for the performance. Lyrics will be sent home this week and posted on the blog. Check the GCS website for more information!

*No School- Monday, February 16th

*Rainbow Sight Words- Please practice the rainbow sight words with your child! If you lose your list, please check the blog. They are posted! These sight words are going to last us for the rest of the school year. Don’t feel like you have to make your child learn one row a week; that may be too excessive!

*Report Cards- Will be mailed home this week! Thank you for your patience! I will be diligent about posting grades online and I will send home progress reports for the 3rd quarter at the end of February.
