Dress Code Reminder

Students must come to school in their proper uniform daily. Sweaters that are worn INSIDE must be school colors. If you want your child to wear a jacket when they are OUTSIDE ONLY, then it may be different colors. However, if you intend for your child to wear their sweater inside the classroom, it needs to be a GCS color.

Snack Reminder

We have snack time everyday from 9:55a.m.-10:15a.m. Please try and remember to send your child to school with a snack. I do have a small supply of snacks to give your child if they do not have a snack, but the supply is quickly disappearing. The students are usually pretty hungry by snack time.

Christmas Program

THANK YOU for working with your child on their part for the program. I am impressed with how quickly they are learning their parts. The program is next Thursday, December 11th. It begins at 7:00p.m. and we are the first group up. Please have your child dropped off in the classroom NO LATER THAN 6:30p.m.! The program is MANDATORY, and you are asked to stay for the whole performance. After the program we will walk back to the classroom and you may pick your child up from there. Your child DOES NOT need to wear their uniform for the program. However, they need to dress appropriately. We encourage the girls to wear dresses and the boys collared shirts and pants. If your child does not have anything “fancy” to wear, their school uniform will do fine.

Christmas Letter

I am sending your child home with their Christmas letter. Please enjoy decorating the letter with your child. Don’t feel like you have to buy any supplies to decorate it. If you only have crayons at home, that will do. J

Missing Sweaters

If your child is missing their sweater or any other object, check the Lost and Found. It is located directly across from the GCS office. There is a chance that the missing item may be in the classroom. However, on Wednesdays and Sundays our rooms are used, so I make a point to take everything to the Lost and Found. Just as a reminder, please write your child’s name inside the sweater on a tag in case it gets left behind.

If they choose to, they will only be allowed to share on their specific day. (If the weekly letter is a vowel, they may share an item that has the vowel in it. If it is a consonant, the item that they are sharing must start with the consonant. Some exceptions may apply). J

Red Row- Mondays
Orange Row- Tuesdays
Yellow Row- Wednesday
Green Row- Thursday
Blue and Purple Rows- Friday

All items MUST be kept in your child’s backpack until it is time to share. Check the blog to see which letter we are sharing each week!

Facilities Appreciation

Facilities Appreciation

Dear Parents,

October is the month for Kindergarten to show appreciation to our facilities team here at Grace Community School. As you all know, the facilities department does A LOT for our class. They clean up ALL of our messes. ALL of them!
On Friday, October 30th, we would like to plan a special day for the facilities team. Our class will make cards for the facilities team and we would like to have special “treats” for them as well. If you would be willing to bring in food for our facilities team to enjoy, let me know. I will be standing outside each day at dismissal with a sign-up sheet. If you can contribute, that would be wonderful. Since we have a large class, not every family will need to contribute, but the more the better!

Thank You!

Miss Nenadov

Math- This week we will be focusing on the concept of sorting and
graphing. We will learn to sort by color, size and shape.

· Thank you for working with your children at home. They are learning to choose what is right! Miss Taylor and I have seen large improvements in their behavior over the past week, so be encouraged. Praise be to God for what he is doing!

· There is homework this week! How do you know it’s homework? It will have a small stamp on the top that says homework. Monday there will be a phonics homework sheet. Please work with your child on this sheet. Help them hear all of the sounds in the word by sounding it out. For example; don’t just say fish. Sound out f-i-sh, so they can hear all of the sounds and/or digraphs. Homework is to be returned the next day!

· Please look inside your child’s folder daily. If there is unfinished work, please have them finish it! It’s important that they keep up with all of the school work so that they don’t fall behind.

· Last week, the students were introduced to the math concepts/words of; before, after, between, top, middle, bottom, right and left. Please continue to work with your child to reinforce these concepts. (We are working hard to understand right and left). J

· Handwriting sheets will also be sent home this week. If they are photocopied, they are just for practice and they DO NOT need to be returned to me. We are practicing in class, but I thought a little extra practice would be beneficial.

· This Friday, 09/18- PGA Hawk Night at 7:00pm-child care provided

· Monday, September 21st- Teacher In-Service Day (No Students)

· Picture Day is on September 25th!

I hope that you had a restful three day weekend. Here is what your child will be learning this week in class.

Bible- Days 3-6 of Creation
Memory Verse: Ii- John 14:14- “If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (We are starting our memory verses this week. We will start with the letter Ii. We will practice the verse daily in class and students will be expected to know it by Friday, 09/11/09).

Phonics- Continue with short u, introduce e and review i, u, e.

Handwriting- Continue with cursive u and introduce cursive
e. (If unfinished work is sent home, please use the Slant Guide and Cursive Formation Chart for help).

Math- This week we will continue to focus on the words/concepts of; inside,
outside, right, left, same, different, sort.

*We are starting our memory verses this week. In order to keep on track, I needed to push the verses up a week early. This week is John 14:14- letter Ii.

*After your child learns a letter in class, a small note card will be sent home. This is for them to collect and keep at home. I suggest hole punching all of them and putting them on a key ring for safe keeping and for easy access. Bible memory verse cards will also be sent home. These are for you to keep as well.

*If you volunteered to work in the classroom, I will send a note home with your child telling when you will be needed.

*If you have not done so, Please fill out your child’s emergency card and turn it in to me or to the school office! They are necessary for emergencies and field trips.

*There will be no homework this week. If your child has work in their folder that means that it is unfinished work. Please have them complete it at home and return it to school the next day.

*If there is work in your child’s folder that is either stamped or has a sticker on it, that is work for you to keep at home. I will start grading their work later on this week.

Weekly Memo

08/31/09-09/04/09

Welcome to week two of school! Here is what your child will be learning this week in class.

Bible- Days 1-3 of Creation
Memory Verse: Genesis 1:1-“In the beginning God created the heavens and earth.” (Your child will not be tested on this verse. We are learning this verse together as a class to prepare your child for memory verses. Memory verses will start the second week of September).

Phonics- Continue with short i and introduce short u

Handwriting- Continue with cursive i and introduce cursive
u. (A Slant Guide and a Cursive Formation Guide will be sent home in your child’s folder. Those are for you to keep at home so you may help your child when homework starts).

Math- This week we will be focusing on the words/concepts of; inside,
outside, right, left, same, different, sort. At the beginning of each chapter there is a short story in which the chapter is introduced. The story for Chapter 1 will be sent home this week; it does not need to be returned to school.

Remember, our behavior chart is in full swing this week. Please work with your child to obey the first time. Be sure to sign their report each day and send it back to school. (If your child received a white star for the day, then they will have a "gold" little star to collect. I now realize that this may cause a little confusion, so I will try to make them white stars from now on).Thank you for your prayers and encouragement. Let’s continue to pray (1 Thessalonians 5:17) that this year would be a productive, God honoring year.
