Phonics- This week is a busy week for phonics! We will continue to practice long vowels. Here are the rules to remember.

Rule #1-When there are two vowels in a word the first one says its long name and the second vowel is silent.
Here is how we mark the words.

Rule #2- When there is one vowel at the end of a word it says its long name. For example, go, me, she, he and we.

We will continue to practice all blends, but we will focus on the fr blend.

We will learn our first two digraphs, sh and th!

Handwriting- We will continue to learn cursive capital letters and practice writing our names!

Math- We will continue learning how to add. We will move on from learning how to add 1 to a number to adding 2 and 3 to a number. We will be introduced to the plus and equal signs.

Science- Finish Seeds and Plants and begin Animals

Welcome Back from Shepherd’s Break!
Here are some things to remember:

Family Fun Night- This Friday, March 12th. Flyers for Family Fun Night were sent home at the end of February. Check the GCS website for more information.

Walk-a-thon!- Monday, March 15th we will be having out walk-a-thon! Please continue to raise money to support GCS! Your child may wear athletic clothes that day. Make sure they are wearing appropriate shoes.

Biedebach Farewell- The Biedebachs have plane ticket to take them back to Malawi on Tuesday, March 16th. This means that we will only have Ami until the Monday of Walk-a-thon. After our walk-a-thon we would like to have a farewell party for her. Monday, the 15th is a NOON DISMISAL, so we will have our party from 11:00-12:00. A flyer will be sent home sometime this week.

*Rainbow Sight Words- Please practice the rainbow sight words with your child! If you lose your list, please check the blog. They are posted! These sight words are going to last us for the rest of the school year. Don’t feel like you have to make your child learn one row a week; that may be too excessive!

Festival of the Arts- This year for the Festival of the Arts we are going to be making candleholders. Please bring in a glass jar for your child to make a candleholder out of. I would prefer it be a 12oz. jar. You do not need to bring in the lid. Please have your child’s name on the bottom of the jar. Please have the jar turned in by Friday, March 19th.

Homework- This week our only official homework will be reading on Tuesday and Thursday!
